How to Care for Your Fresh Flowers

At The Curious Rabbit, we hand-select the freshest market blooms for every bouquet. To keep your flowers looking beautiful for as long as possible, follow these simple care tips. A little love goes a long way!

5 Simple Steps to Longer-Lasting Blooms

  1. Unwrap & Trim
Remove the wet pack and paper wrapping as soon as possible. Using sharp scissors or secateurs, trim about 2cm off the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle. This angled cut increases the surface area for water absorption.

  2. Clean Your Vase
Bacteria is the enemy of fresh flowers. Ensure your vase is scrubbed clean with soap and warm water before filling it with fresh, cool tap water.

  3. Remove Lower Leaves
Strip any leaves that will sit below the water line. Leaves rotting in the water create bacteria that will shorten the life of your bouquet.

  4. Find the Perfect Spot
Display your flowers in a cool room, away from direct sunlight, heating vents, and draughts. Avoid placing them near fruit bowls, as ripening fruit releases gas that can age flowers prematurely.

  5. Refresh Daily
Every 2 days, change the water, clean the vase, and re-trim the stems. This is the secret to getting that extra week out of your arrangement!

Specific Care for Natives & Wildflowers

Australian natives are hardy and long-lasting. To keep them looking their best, ensure they have plenty of water as they are thirsty drinkers. You can also dry many native flowers. Simply empty the water once they have bloomed and let them dry naturally in the vase.

A Note on Lily Care

If your bouquet includes lilies, remove the pollen stamens (the orange bits) as soon as they open. This prevents them from staining the petals (or your clothes!) and helps the flower last longer.
