What “Florist Choice” Really Means And Why It’s a Beautiful Thing!

It's Where the Magic Happens!
When you see Florist’s Choice (or Designer's Choice) on a flower website, you might wonder what that really means. Is it a lucky dip? Is it what’s left over? Is it a surprise you should be nervous about?
It Starts at the Flower Market
For a florist, Florist’s Choice begins early. Very early. Before the shop opens, , we’re walking through the flower market while the city is still stretching awake. This is where we see what nature has decided to offer that week.
Some mornings it’s armfuls of garden roses in the softest blush. Other days it’s sculptural branches, fragrant stock, or the kind of dahlias that stop you mid-step. Flowers are seasonal, and availability shifts constantly - weather, growers, transport - all play their part.
Florist’s Choice allows us to choose what is genuinely at its best that day. Not what was photographed three weeks ago. Not what fits a rigid recipe. But what is fresh, abundant and beautiful right now.
It’s About Trust

When you select Florist’s Choice, you’re placing trust in your florist. You’re saying, “I love your style, please create something lovely.”
That trust gives us creative freedom. And creative freedom is when florists truly shine.
Instead of replicating a fixed arrangement, we design intuitively, balancing colour, texture and movement. We might combine something delicate with something wild. Something soft with something sculptural. We choose blooms that complement each other naturally, rather than forcing a specific flower into a design because it was listed online. The result is an arrangement that feels alive and considered.
It’s Often Better Value
Because Florist’s Choice allows flexibility, we can work with what’s plentiful and in peak condition. When certain flowers are abundant at market, they’re often better quality and better value which means we can create something more generous and beautiful within your budget. You're not paying for out-of-season imports or last-minute substitutions. You’re investing in freshness and craftsmanship.

Every Arrangement Is Personal
Florist’s Choice doesn’t mean random. If your gift is for a birthday, a new baby, a hospital delivery, or sympathy, we design with that sentiment in mind. Soft and soothing for hospital rooms. Joyful and textural for birthdays. Gentle and elegant for sympathy.
We consider the occasion, the message on the card, even where the flowers are going, a sunny terrace in Balmain, a hospital room in Camperdown, a family home in Rozelle. The flowers may be our choice, but the feeling is always yours.

Why Florists Love It
Most florists will quietly tell you. Florist's Choice is our favourite thing to create. It allows us to respond to the seasons. To work sustainably. To reduce waste. To design something truly unique.
No two arrangements are ever exactly the same. And that’s the beauty of it.
Flowers are not manufactured products. They’re grown, weathered, harvested and fleeting. Florist’s Choice honours that natural rhythm instead of trying to control it. So when you choose Florist’s Choice, you’re not leaving it to chance. You're choosing freshness. You're choosing creativity. You’re choosing flowers at their most beautiful. And that’s always a very good choice.
Are there any disadvantages to Florist Choice?
Are there any disadvantages to Florist’s Choice? Honestly, I don’t believe so but it’s not for everyone. Some people understandably want to know exactly what they are receiving and paying for. They may want to count the number of stems, know the exact flower varieties included, or picture precisely how large the bouquet will be. And that’s fair. Flowers can be emotional purchases, and photographs don’t always perfectly convey scale or fullness.
Florist’s Choice does require a little letting go. It asks for trust. Do you trust the florist’s style, judgement and integrity? Are you comfortable allowing creativity and seasonality to guide the final result rather than a fixed recipe? If having total control over every detail feels important to you, then Florist’s Choice might not be the right fit and that’s perfectly okay. The beauty of it lies in the collaboration between trust and craft.
Florist’s Choice, the Curious Rabbit Way
At The Curious Rabbit Flower Shop, Florist’s Choice is the heart of how I love to work. It gives me the opportunity to choose every flower individually, not from a fixed recipe, but from what truly speaks to me at the market that morning. I can lean into the seasons, select locally grown blooms where possible, and support growers who care deeply about the environment. Working this way feels more thoughtful, more sustainable, and more connected to nature’s rhythm.
Florist’s Choice allows me to play with colour in a way that feels intuitive. I can pair tones that softly hum together, or introduce contrast and texture that makes an arrangement feel layered and interesting. I’m not restricted to a formula. Instead, I’m responding to the flowers, to the light, to the occasion.
It also gives me room to grow. To discover new varieties. To learn which flowers truly last and which are fleeting but worth the moment. To think outside the box and gently experiment. Every week at the flower market is different, and Florist’s Choice means I’m always learning, refining and evolving which ultimately means your flowers are too.
And while Florist’s Choice gives me creative freedom, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a say. You’re always welcome to request a favourite flower or a colour palette, and I will absolutely do my best to include it. I love those little personal details, they make an arrangement even more meaningful.
Florist’s Choice is never about ignoring your wishes, it’s about blending your ideas with seasonal beauty and thoughtful design. A collaboration rather than a prescription. That sweet spot between guidance and trust? That’s where the magic happens.

If this way of working resonates with you, if you value seasonality, creativity, sustainability and a little bit of floral curiosity, then I would absolutely love to create for you. Because Florist’s Choice isn’t about leaving it to chance. It's about trusting the process, the seasons, and the hands that are choosing each stem just for you.
At The Curious Rabbit Flower Shop, we offer next-day delivery to reduce waste and keep things beautifully sustainable, sourcing fresh blooms and pairing them with thoughtful gifts for every kind of moment, from grand declarations to quiet “just because” gestures. Delivering across Balmain and the wider Inner West Sydney, we are here to create something gorgeous, generous and just a little bit special whatever the occasion.
